Food Waste
The Co-operative is to become the first retailer in the UK to include storage instructions for fruit and vegetables on its fresh produce bags, to help tackle the growing problem of household food waste.

Carrier Bags
One of our biggest changes of recent times is introducing degradable carrier bags in selected store. These bags contain a special additive which accelerates the breakdown of the plastic. Bags will start to degrade in approximately 18 months after manufacture. The whole process will take about 3 years.
The Co-operative supports the need to reduce single carrier bags and was the first to introduce Fairtrade cotton carrier bags, generating £360,000 extra income for cotton farming communities in India.
