Eye Test

Here at Westgate Optical we will ensure you are given time and care you deserve for your eyes. Our experienced, friendly and professional Optometrist will ask you a few questions about your vision, lifestyle, family history, work and interests. Your answers will give us a better understanding of your eyes and individual requirements.

We will then check the health of your eyes and your sight, as part of your test you will be asked to read from the chart to determine the visual accuracy of your sight. If you have good eyesight you should be able to read near the bottom line clearly without any corrective lenses. If you cannot read these lines, corrective lenses may be required. We will also examine how your eyes processes light, any refraction anomalies can help to determine if you need prescription glasses or contact lenses to correct your vision. Another way to determine the proper prescription for any corrective lenses is by observing how the eye processes a beam of light, by this we can determine whether you suffer from myopia (Short-sighted) or hypermetropia (Long-sighted) or if you have an astigmatism.

At the end of your test, we'll discuss our findings with you and tell you if you need glasses, contact lenses or a new prescription.

If you need a prescription for the first time, we'll explain what it means and recommend suitable lenses to provide you with the best vision and comfort, if we detect signs of any condition or general health problem, we may carry out extra tests and refer you to your GP. Our eye tests cost £23.00, you may be entitled to a free NHS eye test, please see the following info to find out if you qualify.
